The secret, which I saw in one of those regulation sprayskirts that have
such a wand in them is how you sew and position the end sleeves that
hold the wand.  If the distance across the cockpit from coaming to
coaming (or washboard to washboard for Folbot owners) is say 20 inches,
get a 24 inch fiberglass wand and position the sleeves so the ends are
just at the coamings or washboards.  The wands would resist collapsing
down because their ends would be touching the coaming or side.  It takes
a lot of pressure to invert the wands.

Yes, it is made of a soft plastic that gets pretty wimpy looking when
being hit by lots of sun in hot weather.  Like a wet noodle.  It might
be worth while to glue some hard material (again such as the wands) to
the underside of the rims.  This would stiffen the rims a bit and keep
them from drooping in hot weather.
