I understand that you can buy landscaping rocks at garden stores and
other places for US$250 a rock or more. Linda and I recently moved over
to her new pond several 500-lb. boulders that came out out of the hole
where we added on to the house last year. We figure we have at least a
thousand dollars worth -- probably too valuable to leave lying around
outside.

Since they were brought to our property by a southbound glacier (this
was before my time), doubtless many are Canadian ballast rocks. If we
could only figure out which are which....

With enough ballast a kayak can be made essentially self-righting (like
those little pool toys with lead in the bottom). This is an important
point for people to keep in mind--particularly Nordkapp owners. :-)
