I now have my Sirius insured for $2700 which is the list price for new
ones. I dont know how much more the policy will cost, but my agent said it
will only be a few bucks.
It is insured for "replacement" value. Right now the boats replacement
value is the same as its original value, but a few years down the road they
would never give me $2700 for it, so I will reduce the policy coverage
accordingly. Best to err on the high side though.

I have always had replacement value insurance on my property, and
State Farm has been very good about replacing items at current
prices. When my cameras were stolen several years ago, I asked my
agent if I should replace them with new or used gear, and he told
me to buy new gear. This is how I came to own a Nikon F3 and FM2
-- the F2 and FM that were stolen were no longer being manufactured.
As a result of the same burglary, I also replaced my obsolete PCjr
computer with a 286 computer. :-)

When a garbage truck backed into my car, wrecking the Wenonah Jensen
18 canoe on top, the insurance company for the garbage hauler
(Kemperer) refused to pay more than the depreciated value of the
canoe. (This was a custom light weight, foam core, skin coat version
of the canoe, so I would not have been able to get another one
without spending considerably more than the insurance payment.)
Fortunately, State Farm came through again; because I had replacement
value insurance on the canoe, State Farm made up the difference.
Ironically, the first person to take a BWCA trip with me in the new
canoe was an employee of Kemperer who knew the agent for my claim.

I think you can tell that I am a very satisfied customer of State
Farm Insurance.
