[Paddlewise] Rest of the winter? How about far-away places.....

Classic New Zealand paddle spots include Fiordland, (ie the fiords, such as
Doubtful Sound and the many lakes in the area such as Lake Manapouri or
Lake Te Anau) - though the downside is the rain and the huge sandflies...
Obviously Stewart Island would be a great area - I understand only 4
circum-navigations have ever taken place by seakayak - due to the extreme
weather no doubt! Further north, the Marlborough Sounds are also excellent
for kayaking...  and you could always cruise across the Cook Strait if
you're after a challenge managing 30-40 km of  very unpredictable tides -
just dont forget your VHF and GPS... and of course wear your PFD at all
times!!! ;-)  Paddling in Fiji sounds more tempting right now somehow....

How about daydreaming about far away places we would all like to paddle.
Then
we could find out if anyone out there has any suggestions.  I'll start with
anyone who wants to suggest paddle trips along the north coast of the south
island of New Zealand .  Or trips around Stewart Island off the south end
of
the island.

And just another short questions--where is Old Zealand?
