Richard passed on a good example of how the dream influences what people buy. I recall many, many years ago being told by the sales manager at Browning Firearms that we (Newport Boats Division of Browning) were not selling boats but dreams and images. I pooh-poohed it at the time but 35 years in the boat business has changed my tune. Just last night Pamela and I were talking about retirement. What were we talking about? Selling everything and buying a Grand Banks 42 that we could live on while we toured the world. Practical? Probably not but the temptation is great even though common sense says to buy a smaller boat, keep our house here and use the boat only occasionally. Dreams and images are powerful stuff.
