....Ralph said... >Which brings up the question of payloads and how accurate they are. The >Klepper single claims 550 pound payload!!! Can that really be? I know >it can carry a lot, but that figure is a lot too! The Klepper double says to have a 700 lbs or so payload... You know I would tend to believe it...So far the most I had was 2 of us [ 350 lbs] and about another 125 lbs cargo and 10 gallons of water that's about 100 lbs...that's adds up to about 575 lbs, and it wa s quite good going, I am sure I could of had another couple hundred lbs... But I would think that any of these boats [ foldable] with internal sponsoons could carry incredible amounts of weight...Biggest question is Is there enough space in there...Not sure I would want to start stacking shit on top after filling up the 750 litres [170 or so galons] of space...Not sure I could get enough in there to overload it, specialy while trying to load evenly and stuff... I put in a couple hundered lbs of sand in the kayak when I go surfing, otherwise I just bounce over the top of the waves and then go for a swim [ this weight helps with the boat torquing in the waves]... I put the sand in bags, and tie them down, 1 in the rear, 2 on the front cocpit [ which has cockpit cover] another couple in the bow.... Thank you all for immeiatly thinking about them ballast rocks M. Winters is selling, But I do live In the Candian rockies and have much better quality rocks and incredible amounts of them, but I use them for rock walls in the gardens not for paddling. Plus at 5.00USD per lb on overweight luggage I try and cut down on weight, I already pay enough on surcharges... Have fun 45 days to go till Sai Gon 1st frost of the season this morning, snow is at 1500 meters [ 4500ft] my house is at 1000 meters [ 3000 feet] which is close enough for me... enjoy Yours naturally sylvio lamarche Wycliffe organic gardens & Exotic locales all over the globe *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Fri Oct 16 1998 - 15:07:27 PDT
