My wife and I always carry extra stove fuel to augment the hot water if the solar part isn't working well. Doesn't take much, and it's *certainly* worth it. And it would do for those glacial silt (glacial flour) rivers that someone else mentioned, though more fuel for more water (can usually find a clear side stream somewhere) would be necessary.
