Hello fellow Paddlewisers... Starting this coming weekend, I will be leaving San Felipe, and continuing my journey by kayak down the inside of the Baja to La Paz. I am happy to say that my father will be joining me for the 40 day voyage. He has never paddled a sea kayak in his life, but I don't think it's a problem, considering I had never paddle on the ocean before setting off to paddle the west coast of the USA. Pops isn't a total novice, he has been canoeing all his life. Also... the first time Ed Gillet ever paddled a kayak(so says Ray Jardine) was on this very same trip with Ray. I think they did it about 25 days... amazingly! Anyhow... I'm just writing to say that I'm signing off from Paddlewise. I will be using a satellite phone to get my email mostly from now on, which costs $3 US dollars per minute, so I just can't afford long down-loads. If anyone has any final words of wisdom... I'm all ears! (For anyone unfamiliar with my journey, I am paddling solo(mostly) from Vancouver to Saint John, NB, Canada - via Nicaragua.) I'd also like to thank the fellow paddlers who over the past year graciously gave me a roof over my head when I had none, and was friend when I need one. Before I left home a year ago, I had many in the on-line paddling community doubt my success in this 3 year solo voyage. However, I must tell you... the past year has been the best of my life. But it was NOT solely my own doing. This too, I must also accredit to the On-line paddling community. I have learned a great deal from the discussions on various kayaking related topics, and on many occasions, I have been assisted by individuals who I have met through this list serve. These individuals have gone WAY out of their way to help me. The extraordinary kindness they offered, allowed me to live my dreams... and allowed thousands of others tag along and share the adventures with me. I owe a great deal to these people. How ever small of an offering, I want to publicly thank each one, as well as the organizations to which they also belong: Len & Madeline Goodman, Bob Tellefson, Markus Boesch, Mike Higgins, Bill Stewart, Lydia Barrett, Ken Manshardt, John Dixon, Mike McNulty, Fred & Linda Gillam, Craig Sanders, the people of BASK, and the California Kayak Friends. Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!! I will do my very best you make you proud. To any of you who listen to CBC radio, I have an interview in a few hours(it is now 4:21am) which it at 11:15am EST. It will be live and will air coast to coast. All my adventures over the past year can be found on my website at: http://www.solomax.com Have fun... ALWAYS!
