To add my $.01 worth for Paddlewisers:
Maligiaq put on quite an impressive demonstration of rolling skills in his
Greenland kayak at the Southwest Canoe and Kayak Rendezvous this past
weekend. He is 16 yrs. old, and is both the national kayaking champion of
Greenland and a national martial arts champion. Sunday morning he
demonstrated some training techniques used in the Greenland kayak training
camps. These involve exceptional body control movements working around,
under and over two ropes stretched about 8 feet off the ground between two
trees or poles. After viewing these exercises, it was easier to understand
his control of the boat which he demonstrated on the water in a wide
variety of rolls, with paddle and body in all sorts of positions.
Unfortunately Maligiaq's skin and frame kayak was damaged in transit by
the airline. Even after repair the bow has a sharp bend to one side. This
didn't seem to affect his rolls at all, but did cause veering to one side
when he demonstrated the technique of forward paddling while upside down!
I understand he may be in the U.S. up to a year, possibly spending some
time in Colorado and Seattle, and I highly recommend to everyone seeing him
when you can.

	Best paddling to all,
	John
