A while back someone was joking about infrared goggles.

Some techy journal this week had the url to

http://www.spystuff.com/main.html

In the special products section they had Russian night vision goggles for
$695 or a night observation scope for $295. I think the full blown
night surveillance kit included both plus a pair of swarovski binoculars
people were raving about ;-)

I'm sure there are other sites with lots of other goodies. Maybe this will
keep Clyde busy for a while...

I know Price/Costco (a warehouse store similar to Sams Club for you east
coasters) has been carrying the Russian night vision scopes and goggles for
about 2 years at slightly lower prices. I am not sure of the ability of
these products to survive the moisture of a typical kayaking trip but they
would probably work OK in a bag like those designed for taking your
video-camera on a diving trip.

The ideal night vision scope is the ITT Night Mariner. There are completely
waterproof and designed for marine applications. The make a binocular and
less expensive monocular. These are gen 2 or 3 while the Russian gear is
typically gen 1.
