hi all, just wanted to say thanks to everyone who gave advice on cockpit customizing, i tried out my craftsmanship today and i was very pleased with the results. I have one question, i made a nylon sprayskirt (just to have something) and it actually works pretty well. However, some water does drip through and i wondered if anyone knows of a good quality green friendly waterproofing agent for nylon? thanks, robin lovelock mobile, al. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************

About the greenest stuff you can find is Kenyon's Recoat 3, which is a water-based urethane coating replacement. (I got mine at REI.) It is pretty close to the original formulation on most coated nylons, but because it is a "paint on" material, it does not adhere as well as the stuff applied at the factory. I've used it on cockpit covers, and it's OK, but it wears easily, and the nylon must be clean, clean, clean for this material to adhere. Less green are the organic-solvent-based seam sealers, which stink horribly as they cure because of the vehicles in them. You can buy small quantities of this stuff, and because it is likely the leakage you are experiencing is just at the seams, you may find a small tube of seam sealer is more cost-effective. Whichever way you go, don't expect a coated nylon sprayskirt to remain waterproof very long. Wear at the cockpit rim will cause leaking very quickly. -- Dave Kruger Astoria, OR *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
