My 2 cents on sharks...use with caution, I dont work for National Geographic
or anything.
Sharks follow ships and boats in order to leach off the garbage and stuff that
either they eat or stuff they like to eat is attracted to. Since you were
fishing, I assume you had bait in the water....YUM to sharks.
>From working on research ships, we constantly dealt with sharks. Most were
white tips and they were quite docile. They took a meal if you placed it in
the water for them...they loved spam and vienna sausages. To repel them we
would give them a poke on the snout with a pole. They retreat immediately.
The trick is to keep them from the frenzy where all bets are off on munching
on anything.
So, If I were fishing from an yak and were in your position I would first get
the baits out of the water and cover whats left in your boat. I would also be
sure your not dangling your catch over the side. Take away the
attraction..... Then, if you feel uncomfortable, beat a hasty retreat as a
group. No need to raft up.....they will stay with you like a dog begging at
the dinner table. They have all the time in the world.
A 4 footer followed you in because it knew you might possibly put another bait
in the water for him...smart.
Maybe you will get a note on some kind of reported mako or hammerhead attack
and there are plenty of accounts of great white attacks on yaks but thats a
bit different than sand sharks and white tips.
BTW white tip shark meat tastes awful!

Where is "Here" anyway?
