The length of a tow line seems to be another of the sea kayaking religious subjects --everyone has strong opinions about it. So let us hear theM. What do you thing should be the appropriate length of a tow line? Three lengths should be available to a trip leader, or at least a quick method of adjusting the length of a single two line. A 1.5 foot line is useful for towing side to side. A 25 feet line is more adequate for towing a tired paddler who needs to be within range of oral communication. A 50+ feet line is the one to use for towing through breaking waves.
