I got around this problem by glueing carpeting on top of foam, which I got from packing crates. However, the foam is degrading badly because it isn't UV-resistant, so I need to replace it this winter. :-) Yesterday it was 62 degrees F. in the Twin Cities -- 9 degrees above the record high for the date set in 1890. The Star Tribune reported that Midwest Mountaineering is selling more kayaks than skis this season. Got my copy of ANorAK last week. Nice article by Greg Stamer about the forward stroke used by the 16-year-old national kayaking champion of Greenland, Maligiaq Padilla.
