The Great Paddlewise Cookbook Contest I propose a winter project for those who are winter bound and are needing an outlet for kayaking activities that can include endless hours of, hopefully, esoteric debate. I have one axiom to describe my camping adventures. Camping is fun, food is everything. Which is to state that almost any hardship of the day can be overcome with a GREAT meal. The Proposed CONTEST I propose that members submit meals that can be used on kayaking-camping trips. Rules: You must create a meal that has not been published before by anyone else. If you take a regular house type meal and modify ingredients for a kayaking trip, this would be OK. Paddlewise members will try and cook these meals and rate on the following attributes: Taste Overall ease of cooking. Shelf-life of ingredients Volume of packaging. Others We need to define rating guidelines (numbers) such as: Ie: Cooking time: 5 for less than 5 minutes; 4 for btween 5 &8 etc. I have not given any real though to the above. And JOHN - No; using ballast rocks to make stone soup does not qualify. At the end of contest we can collect all the meals and make available to members. We could even publish a crude book and sell these with the profits going to worthy causes that Paddlewise members support (now there is an item for debate). Unless there is another mechanism I can volunteer to collect receipts I am proposing for my recipe to modify a house dish of: Peanut-butter, 2% carnation milk, salsa sauce( try a dry mixture) to make a noodle dish. I am hoping to be able to premix peanut-butter and carnation milk to reduce can and to try a find dry veggies that an be soaked to make a salsa type sauce. For those who recognize the ingredients this is a very tasty dish at east in a house environment.
