>I have been experimenting with 2 home-made greenland-style paddles starting about a year ago with little or no progress. I have asked experienced SKers in my area (San Diego,Ca.) if they could demo the forward stroke. James Jacobs> I live here in San Diego. This year I bought a Greenland paddle from Superior, and the Greenland video by VanDoren. I practiced the technique shown by VanDoren and got comfortable with it. I had been using modern narrow blade paddles; Eddyline WindSwift and Werner Little Dipper. I modified my technique with those paddles as well in accord with VanDorens style and found it very effective. However, I never grew to prefer the wood Greenland to the modern paddles. The lightness of graphite is too appealing to me. I have recently bought a new AT Xception Tour bent shaft paddle. This is so much better than any other paddle I have ever used that I am planning to sell all 6 or 7 other paddles of various kinds. I still use VanDorens technique except that my grip is not so narrow as he advises.
