I've spent a little time wandering around the net looking at folding kayaks, mainly because all reference I've seen so far dealing with standard sailing rig setups has related to them. I've seen a few spinnaker rigs for downwind sailing but the Feathercraft K2 Expedition double is the only one I've seen so far with some sort of genoa rigging. As I get older and feebler (physically that is) the thought of being able to sail into (off of) 20-30+ knot winds is beginning to look more and more attractive. Sure beats trying to paddle against them. I havn't seen anything on the sort of keel, center/dagger board setups that would be required to prevent sideways slippage but assume it would be kinda awkward & cumbersome. I was suprised to learn that the K2's can be converted to a K1 by pretty much just changing the seat. I always thought K2's had two holes (kinda like an outhouse) for people to sit in/on. I always wondered how that guy that paddled to Hawaii simply slid down under the deck to sleep. Of course he probably also had Tiny Tim Ingram's invention along for stablilzation :-). Now I'm confused as to what to do with my knees in an open K2 cockpit when/if I'm trying to brace. Haven't read Ralph's book yet. Waiting for after the holidays to get that and the weather forecasting books. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Mon Dec 21 1998 - 08:56:32 PST
