G'day - I sent the following to John Winters, actually meaning to send it to the rest of the list as well. It should help out with the clarification on what a surf ski is - For a look at real surf skis (the Australian version) have a look at Burton Surf Skis - the leaders in development and manufacture. Nearly every surf ski in Australia is made by them (and there are heaps). For those of you who don't know what a surf ski is and presume therefore they do not really exist, have a look at: http://www.scoast.net.au/~burton/index.html Burton will answer any questions you may have I am sure. Nobody actually surfs them - as in doing tricky little maneuvers - but the paddlers sure can come in (and go out) on some very radical sized waves and huge surf. They are very fast but if you stop paddling you tend to fall over - unless you are one of these incredibly gifted sprockets with balance coming out your ears (and there seems to be a load of them around these parts). If anyone doubts how fast they are - do a little research on and who and what won the Molokai Challenge this year (Oh ...... OK, I'll give you a hint, it was an Aussie). BTW, no I do not work for Burton Surf Skiis, nor do we sell them, nor so any of my friends or relatives work for them, nor do I even own any surf skis, in fact my mother does not even own one - Regards - Wayne Langmaid Central Coast Kayak Tours - only a step away from Sydney Avoca Beach NSW Australia http://www.kayaktours.com *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Sun Dec 27 1998 - 21:48:17 PST
