Re: Weather, It may be an interesting experience to roll in waves in a kayak. Imagine what a sailor might have to offer who has rolled his/her yacht in the ocean. There is a very interesting and helpful book on the issue of weather from our sailing brethren. Please take a look at "Heavy Weather Sailing", 4th Edition by K. Adlard Coles, revised by Peter Bruce. The book is a collection of authors' accounts who represent responsible and experienced views. It is available in virtually all sailing supply stores in paperback. Or, go to your local library. The book has been revised to add new chapters from expert contributors covering hull shapes and rigs, the latest gear and strategies for outlasting storms at sea, and advances in weather knowledge. (!) Many accounts are spine-tingling-we-were-there stories followed by postmortems analyzing which gear and tactics worked and which did not. I hope that folks find the book interesting and of value. Richard Clifford The book includes many interesting chapters, such as preparations for heavy weather; the meteorology of heavy weather; wind waves; the stability of yachts in large breaking waves; seasickness; and heavy weather tactics. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
