I have been checking out used touring boats suited to my newbie experience level and budget. The most recent one was a Sea Runner by Hydra. Does anyone have experience with this boat? The problem I have, and it may only apply to this specific unit, has to do with the tube under the seat. All the time I paddled the boat the tube (which extends forward) was sticking up from the hull like an erect pecker (pardon my French). If this tube is intended to spread my considerable weight along the hull this is no way to accomplish the task. Also, although there is a pocket molded into the seat and a screw hole for locating an additional tube projecting rearward from the seat there is no such tube in this boat. Upon removing the boat from the water after an 1.5 hour paddle the thing appeared to have a belly like a pregnant sow (please note reference to considerable weight, above). Is this boat missing something? Is there supposed to be a single piece of tubing running from bulkhead to bulkhead or are there supposed to be two pieces of tube, one running forward and the other aft and the rear one is just missing? Anyone? Otherwise I rather liked the way the boat tracked and handled small (1-2 foot) waves.
