I ran into a friend on the ferry to Sidney, B.C. He and his
buddy Fred were also vacationing in B.C. Fred told me of an orca
experience that I find hard to believe.
Fred said that one day they were sitting on a beach, eating
their lunches. All of a sudden an orca came out of the water and
landed on the shore near Fred. After looking them over, the orca
reportedly slid back into the water and disappeared.
My question is this: Is such a thing possible? Has anyone ever
had or heard of such an experience? Fred swears it really happened.

As a devoted "Discovery Channel" viewer I believe I saw an episode where orcas
were stalking seals and actually came through the surf rolled on the beach
grabbed a seal and rolled back into the water.

It makes you think twice about that romantic stroll along the surf!

I am aware of an incident involving some scientists studying seals
and having an Orca incounter.

Two scientists were scuba diving and swimming with the seals, when
the Orcas arrived the seals started leaving the water in a hurry.
The scientists decided to join the seals, but were not as fast at
swimming.
One of the scientists was grabbed by an Orca. He reported that the
Orca took hold of him and felt/tasted the wetsuit and instantly
spit him out.

I know of no Orca attack on a human, in the wild. In captive situations
there have been a few cases of bored whales doing something drastic
to get the attention of the trainers.

I have seen an Orca kill and eat a 1000 lb leopard seal.
If they wanted to kill a human it would be over before anybody
could do anything about it.

Discovery Channel ran a film not long ago on Orca which included
footage taken in South America. The camera captured Orca thrusting
themselves unto to the beach to grab seals and then slide back into the
water with their prey flaying in their jaws. No reason to doubt
the occasion you report. When they see a meal they are aggressive.
Orca are intelligent and it's good thing they are.

I once watched orca coming right in among the shoals off Vancouver Island chasing
their prey and boy do they move quick, I nearly freaked.
They are like a heat seeking missile locked on target. Seeing such a
dorsal fin remain plowing the surface at such speed was impressive.

Someone on wavelength once commented about an Orca rising beside his Kayak and opening
its Jaws wide giving him a wide view. I recall him saying how bad it's breath was. He
further remarked: "Great oh god is thy fish and my boat so small." Now that was a
close encounter.

Best Regards,

Philip
