I think I mentioned it on this list when it happened, but I had the amazing forture of paddling with a Gray Whale last October. I was paddling off Depoe bay (that's in Oregon for those of you in other parts of the country) when we saw a commercial whale watching boat cruising very slowly a few hundred yards away. We paddled up to the boat to see what was going on and up came a Gray whale right next to us. I've been out a couple times since then looking for Gray whales, but due to the delayed migration, I haven't seen any since then. I intend to keep trying, though, since paddling next to a gray whale is totally cool.
