What really keeps a Vhf radio dry is the $20 waterproof bag that goes over it. I get the "best" one of these possible. That is cheap insurance. The cheaper VHF radios become (under $100 dollars) the more people are likly to buy and carry them. And the less painful it is to have to replace them.
