[Paddlewise] Kayak fitting

Actually, I'm not sure what the subject line should read. After yesterday's
5 hour paddle, today the muscles in the back of my leg are sore. I caught
myself several times pressing real hard on the foot pegs. Is this normal?
Could this be the result of the foot pegs not adjusted properly?

I find my leg position in my kayak to always be uncomfortable. I've tried
placing my knees where they touch the deck, but this seems hard to hold for
any long period of time. Most of the time my legs are just slightly bent and
pressing on the foot pegs...sometimes very strongly on each paddle stroke.
Almost like I'm bouncing on them. My knees tend to just hang in the air and
I'm also pretty bow legged). With my knees against the deck, I feel "almost"
in the right position, but just to low to hold for hours at a time. If I
could bring my knees up another couple of inches I think it would feel fine.

My heels touch each other and my feet angle out to the pedals. Maybe
everything is fitting properly and my leg muscles are just getting tired
from the workout?

Thanks in advance for the hints and ideas....

Woody
