Didja know those danged pesky jet ski thingees can run on snow too? Yup,
seen 'em with mine own eyes.

Went for a 7-8 mile walk in a nearby state park yesterday and there they
were, 50-75 of them suckers. They come with some kind of attachment thing
underneath that looks like a squished down hamster wheel and outrigger ski
things to maintain balance I guess.

Actually there were a variety of styles. Some had them ski things, some had
four fat wheels on 'em, some only had three wheels (would that be the
economy or expert model?) and sho' 'nuff, some only had two wheels. Didn't
see any unicycles tho'. They all made that loud whiny noise them little
bitty Japanese motors make (why don't they use a man's engine like a
Harley?) and emitted those disgusting bonoxious gaseous fumes.

For the most part, these were the same dorky types ya see in the summer out
on the water. I recognized a few of 'em even with their fancy designer
overhalls and football helmets. Everything was color co-ordinated and they
sure looked purty, even though they didn't drive any better. Yup, they was
out there making them same hairpin turns and sending up showers of snow,
rev'in those pukey little enginges for all they were worth, 'n acting like
typical butt holes.

Some of 'em musta been beginners or sumthin, 'cause they didn't go so fast
and when they saw ya they'd hold up their hand so the machines behind would
know you were there. And these folks wouldn't hardly try to run ya over
a'tall or even buzz ya to see how far you'd jump.

I got out to the park around 8am and there was only a couple of lone riders
then. I was comin' back around 10:30 when they started appearing in force.
(Guess their hangovers was startin' to wear off by that time). 'parrently
they ain't very tuff 'cause they mostly hunt in packs of 4-5, sumtimes 7-8.
Guess they like an audience when they perform their amazing tricks of
derring do.

Dunno where I'm gonna go now to get away from them. Hikin' the back trails
will keep 'em outa sight but not outa my ears. The poor old bones creak too
much for winter mountain climbin' and 'sides if them mountain bikes go up
there, them things would be up there too. Wonder if there's any places
around to go bouldering? Ain't likely they'd take kindly to rock fields, or
would they? Unfortunately I'd prob'bly slip and fall down behind some big
ol' rock and stay there till the found me in the springtime. Or do I really
want to start winter 'yakkin just for a little peace 'n quite?

Them jet ski thingies you are talking about are called snow-mobiles
(don't try to hang them over the babies crib, though) or ski-doos. They
actually came out before the jet ski's. I guess the folks wanted to
practice in a place where they wouldn't drown if they fell off. Then
they started taking them ski-doos across short stretches of water.
There was even talk at one point of putting sp*****ns on them!! I guess
eventually they wore out them skis on the front, because they kind of
stopped using them. Then they wised up enough to put floatation in
them, and it went downhill (down river?) from there. But they still
keep the "training machines" around and use them during the winter, it
takes a lot of practice to be that annoying!

Piano wire about stretched between trees about 5 feet off the ground will
take care of those pesky critters..

Hey Clyde,

I'm not sure if that was written tongue in cheak, but you probably saw
snowmobiles. Last I checked (and I have to admit to being a part owner
of a Seadoo) these suckers wouldn't run on land under any circumstances.

Hope you find some solitude away from the noisy pack.

Those are snowmobiles. Very impractical on water, very annoying on snow,
very useful in Canada's north.

Snowmobiles are the parents of Seadoos, which are strictly water based.
Some snowmobiles can do rather well on water for a short distance but have
to keep the speed up or they sink like a rock.

I watched an arctic documentary & was surprised to see Inuit crossing narrow
open water leads between icefloes with snowmobiles. They had a board
fastened between the skis for lift.
