An additional problem with salt water corrosion of aluminum poles is that
it is insidious - it may not be visible from the outside. Although you
should certainly protect poles from soaking in the brine while underway,
even the salt air can be somewhat corrosive to them. One recommendation is
to periodically wipe them down with 303 Protectant.
