Mention has been made of how difficult Fastex buckles are to undo with cold,
numb hands. There are many different designs by different companies out
there. It is the squeeze type that are difficult, not the pull-open type.
Some of the "fastex" style buckles are smoother than others, and work much
better for kayakers, especially ones from National Molding. You can get a
catalogue from Seattle Fabrics (www.seattle2000.com/seattlefabrics)or phone
(206) 525-0670. Some of these work exceptionally well with a small nylon
loop, such as found on some kayak makers rear deck float rescue rigging.
