I considered wading into the river after my takeout, but the current and the knowledge that I would be standing around in a windchill below zero afterward dissuaded me. I know others who have done it, though, and it is something I would like to try in other circumstances -- say, just as the ice is going off the city lakes. The previous New Year's Day, when the air temperature was warmer and my paddle less slippery, I rolled a couple of times without discomfort, but I was not under long. I was well enough protected that the coldest part of me when I was under was my face. Paddling in such cold weather is an interesting experiment, but I don't recommend it for extended trips. ----------------- Interesting comments. Have you (or anyone else) ever had the nerve to walk into the water and submerge yourself in your drysuit before or after a paddle in that kind of weather? *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************
