I love paddling off the Oregon coast in the winter. The big swells, awesome surfing, and occasional whale sightings make it a wonderful time to paddle. Its also a deadly time and place to paddle alone. I need people to join me in this pursuit. I would like to compile a list of people who share my love for winter paddling in the surf zone and the open ocean. Since I live in Corvallis, I am most interested in people living between Eugene and Portland. A key criteria for ocean paddling partners --- and hence why I'm bringing it up here -- is a dedication to saftey. I like rough water, but I am a saftey nut and have no intention of joining the "deep trouble" honor rolls. While you don't need to be a Tsunami Ranger, you do need the skills for quick rescues in rough conditions. A roll is essential as is comfort in high winds and the surf zone.
