I've set up a quick and dirty web page for the list describing the conversion of the PFD beacon to an LED beacon. The yellow LEd in the picture is a 6,000 MCD and the orange LEDs I have used are 13,000 or so. I have just ordered some white 40,000 LEDs and will keep the list posted. My LED flashlight with 2 D cells is still going after 2 1/2 weeks and is still as bright as when it was assembled! The 4 cell devices seem to die a little quicker lasting only a week or so. A 2 AAA device is still going strong.
