Not sure if I can do this. Its an olive shaped piece of plastic about 1-1.5 inch long. It has a hole on one (flattened) end that is in the lenghtway plane. Another hole is located top to bottom just adjacent to this end hole. SO the two holes connect at end. Shock cord is pushed through the end hole and pushed up through the top to bottom hole. A knot is tied in the end and the cord is then pulled back through the end hole, but of course is now fixed to the cleat. In the middle of the cleat is another top to bottom hole at the end of two rows of cleat 'teeth' on either side of a furrow in the top of the cleat. The shock cord is looped around what you are securing, passed up through the middle hole and cleated into the furrow. Voila! these thiings have held stuff on my deck in big surf and survived tips, breaking waves etc Hope it makes sense.
