I also am enjoying this thread and wanted to reply to the list. I bought a beat up Old Town canvas canoe about 20 years ago and enjoyed stripping the old varnish off, fixing broken ribs, putting on new canvas and varnishing the insides. That took a couple of winters to do. It was a neat canoe when finished and a fun project... but is too big to handle myself. My son now has the canoe which is just right for his wife and two kids. I am retired, age 66, and a couple of years ago became interested in getting some kind of boat I could use by myself. I live in western Michigan with lots of small inland lakes and nice rivers to explore. I purchased a new Feathercraft K-Light kayak last year and enjoyed exploring numerous lakes and rivers. Now I am in process of building a 17' Chesapeake Light Craft kayak... a nice thing to do in winters when the lakes are frozen. Too new to have any war stories but enjoy the day trips I make... either with the kayak or on the trails with my mountain bike. I appreciate all the help I get from the folks that subscribe to Paddlewise... and want especially to thank Ralph for his personal help answering my various questions about folding kayaks when I was studying them.
