Sid Taylor's equipment list reminds me of my own. Mine started years ago as a canoe camping checklist kept first on paper, then on computer. Now I also have a version for winter camping and another for sea kayak camping. Like Sid, I arrange mine by where things will be used or stowed -- even our headings are similar. It includes literally every single item I am likely to want on the trip, down to dental floss and a reminder to feed the cat. I don't necessarily take everything on the list on every trip, but I sure have to think about it. Linda, on the other hand, just spreads out all her gear on the living room floor and works from that. Somehow it works for her, but I'd be sure to forget something. For beginners trips I have a more general list that has a seven-inch circle overlaid on it to illustrate the size of a VCP hatch on a rental boat.
