Hi All. Enjoying this thread though my computer has been down for several days and so it has all arrived enmass........Not so very long ago it seems, I was 20 and my very-patient wife and I got a vague notion that we should move to the coast of Maine though we had no connection here and had never been north of Kittery. Even so, there was and is something oddly familiar to me about this area. After a few years, I realized that whatever it was that had drawn us here was out on the islands and out past the coves. Through some odd circumstances I happened upon a used sea kayak (not an easy thing to do 20 years ago in Maine) and realized somehow that its versatility and grace was what I needed to continue my quest. The years have passed as well as a long line of kayaks, most of which I build myself these days, and I have truly loved the time that I have spent paddling along this coast. Suddenly I'm 46 and my son is 11 - paddling his own kayak; thinking his own thoughts. Life goes on but I am still quite content to continue this quest. Though my work in a biomed lab puts food on the table, I find that my mind spends most of its time either out on the islands or back at the shop trying to work through whatever snag has developed on whichever kayak is being built. I suspect that there are more transitions ahead. Putting the finishing touches on an Angmagsallik currently and setting the forms for a Panache........Nice to get to know you all a little better. Nice to see Brother Bill in South Carolina checked in. See you folks out on the water..... mark *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List Submissions: paddlewise_at_lists.intelenet.net Subscriptions: paddlewise-request_at_lists.intelenet.net Website: http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/paddlewise/ ***************************************************************************Received on Thu Feb 11 1999 - 17:53:46 PST
