My intro to paddeling was in 1937 when a neighbor gave me an Old Old Town canoe which I quickly launched into the Atlantic at Atlantic City. That boat was not very durable. After a few weeks of riding the surf and sometimes diving to the bottom the old boat gave way. A few weeks later I found a kid who had a red, canvas, wooden ribbed kayak. He had damaged the boat and had lost his paddle. For a couple of dollars he passed ownership to me. I worked a few weekends repairing the boat and constructing a paddle which must hace weighed at least five pounds and was about seven feet long. The kayak didn't last much longer than the canoe. I went into the Army in 40 and just about gave up paddeling for a while. Over the following years I paddled and raced canoes. When the Chinook made its appearance I decided to go back to kayaks. I have had many boats since. Right now I have a Seda Glider, an Arluk 3 for the use of friends and a surf boat.
