  The key in Rob's original post was the term "groover".  I think that
the term might be more familiar to whitewater folks but I'm sure the day
is coming (if it's not already here) when ecologically responsible sea
kayakers will be using these also. The origination of the term came from
the "grooves" that were left on one's posterior regions after the box
had been used (to receive solid human waste) .  I think the original
groovers were .50 cal (or something similar) ammo boxes.  They're strong
and watertight, after all you certainly don't want one of these puppies
to leak!  I believe that they were first put to use in some of the
southwestern US river canyons when the Park Service started requiring
that human waste be packed out.  
   I couldn't get anywhere from the posted link either.
