Hi Just back from the Santa Cruz area - the advice from Mike and Frank was very helpful re tides etc on the Elkhorn Slough - Saturday I couldn't find anyone to go with me so I went to Pinto Lake for a safe sheltered paddle. The only other paddler on the lake was a local fellow and really nice - he went with me on Sunday to the slough -we put in at Kirby as the tide was turning and had a great time. I discovered that my new REI spray skirt was pushing my pfd up into my face - it wasn't the pfd at all. The next day I tried using the Feathercraft spray skirt but had the same problem until I put it on the outside instead of under the pfd. This is not a satisfactory solution. I hadn't had the problem in the past because I was using droopy nylon rental spray skirts. I may end up getting a short pfd instead of being aggravated all the time. It would have been a miserable paddle if I hadn't been on quiet water where I could leave the spray skirt half off. Thanks for everyone's input on the spray skirt and the Santa Cruz area.
