There were several threads on this list a while back about inflatable PFDs. For what it's worth, I came across a Kent Inflatable Vest, the "Air-N-Float", a USCG Type III certified flotation device at my local K-Mart --- believe it or not --- and, at US$44.99, it didn't look too bad. I think I thought they cost a lot more than that. For what it's worth.
