Sure there are different types of crabs in different areas - in my area (SE Alaska) we have Dungeness, King, and Tanner Crabs - Dungees make the best eating, IMO, although I'm slightly allergic to them and have to use Benadryl to fight the reaction (a case of the reward being worth the risk). A single legally sized Dungeness (6 1/2" across the carapace) makes a good meal for a person. Tanner's tend to be slightly smaller than Dungeness, and King Crab can be HUGE - imagine a crab 3 feet across (leg tip to leg tip). Only males of any species can be harvested. The meat of Tanner and King crab tend to not be as sweet as that of the Dungeness, but they're all good eating.
