Fits fine in the back of the boat (though it wouldn't with a smaller VCP hatch). I got tired of spending so much time trying to tie things up only to realize that I'd forgotten something in the bag once I did have it up in a tree. The canister does take up space and never gets any smaller, but you can keep putting other things inside of it and carry things that you normally wouldn't want to carry in a bag like eggs, avocados, tomatoes).
