There is no comparison for the technical image quality from a film camera. This argument is not a new one, it went on for years with large vs. the smaller format as well. Not only does the digital give you instant gratification, but you take it out on any whim and shoot far more making a greater editable body of work. A similar argument of roll film when it came out compared to the single sheets and film holders. I use my digital cameras every day and have made more exposures with it than I have ever with film, and I would shoot at least 3 rolls a week in earlier days. I am looking at far more interesting images now with the digital by risking failure without the costs inherent in chemical photography. I did see a low rez digital on one of the auction sites alledgedly waterproof which sold under 200.00. A pretec I believe. I know nothing about it. I tend to approach each very differently. I use the digital for my journal below in which I am not looking for single fine images, but the body of work as a whole. I also use it for quick reportage as well as a communication device, expecially for my biz partner Janet (lurking on the list, one of my kayak companions), as a way to keep her appraised on my progress with process(just wanted to use those words together). We have to shoot our work on transperencies for publication, so film has a definite place. If I go out to shoot, it's film. The camera I have with me all the time is digital. Whatever you choose, shoot a lot.
