THe hip pads should go right on the vertical support strut that drops down from the inner cockpit rim to the hull, and they should contact your hips directly without touching the thigh. It sounds to me like your struts are forward of your hips, although on my Tern they are in the right spot. Perhaps your seat is too far back, or you may have installed the struts too far forward. You could move the struts, with a little bit of work, or simply bring a thick block of foam out from the hull so that it reaches your hips. Did I guess right at your problem?
