SOT's work great here in Florida, but I can see that those of you who must
suffer Yankee weather might not like them ... I loved my old Nimbus Puffin,
but she was just too damn hot for down here and useless on these rivers ... I
now have a Necky Dolphin ... 14.5' ... Good size hatches and storage fore &
aft and one of those little hand-sized screw-in ones tween your legs for sun
screen and such ... I added lots of bungies for deck storage and the rear deck
has a molded-in area for a dive tank ... She can be fitted with a rudder or
skeg ... I use the add-on seat w/backrest and leg straps, which is comfortable
and provides that needed "attached" feeling ... The Dagger Rep from Tampa was
playing on it and rolled her both ways ... She's fast and tracks well (for a
plastic SOT) ... And, a paddle float rescue works very easily done on an SOT
... We may not look "cool" on these SOT's, but their extremely practical, can
be used on the Gulf, in the surf, in the mangroves, and any river in the State
... I would be MOST interested in plans or a kit for a wood SOT, if one of you
fine craftsman should design one ... Also, a canoe makes a great towed barge
for all that luxury camping gear! ... Paddle safely ...
