Yep, I've got a cure. The answer is whitewater river kayaking. Myself and
most of my friends get pretty excited when it rains, because the rivers
come up. It really turns your worldview around in a good way for denizens
of the PNW. "I hate rain" becomes "I love rain".

Another little secret about whitewater kayaking is that it is "old fart
friendly". Not that I am accusing anyone at all of being an old fart, but
last summer I taught four 50+ sea kayakers the basics of whitewater while
teaching some classes for George Gronseth. They all did as well as the
younger folks, as the difficulty in whitewater is not strength or stamina,
but finesse. We offer the use of sit-on-tops whitewater kayaks that really
facilitate the learning process.

Cheers,
kevin
