One benefit that a sea kayak has that is lacking in a SOT is the thermal environment you create when you attach a sprayskirt to the cockpit coaming of a sea kayak. Of course this would only be a benefit while paddling in cold conditions but it is one that I appreciate while living in Minneapolis, Minnesota during the Winter. The thermal environment is created when your body heats the air trapped inside the cockpit.
