This a response to the under deck storage thread. I have found that the perfect way for me to stow my manual bilge pump, two paddlefloats, a 1000ml Nalgene water bottle, and other items is to put them into knee tubes that are secured to the underside of my cockpits deck. I have not taken the same road as the British, they typically like a knnetube made of fiberglass. I have found that a good four inch diameter peice of drainfield pipe that is three to four feet long works just fine for the center knee tube. To keep it in place I use 100% silicone and leave the sea kayak upside down until the silicone has cured. A two inch diameter plastic pipe works great for holding a manual bilge pump and I siliconed mine in place on the side of the four inch pipe. Thanks to a post on this subject I will put in a three inch pipe on the other side of the four inch central pipe. This three inch pipe will be a perfect place for storing charts and topo maps. I have performed many self rescues and wet-re-entry and rolls and my feet or legs have never come into contact with the kneetubes yet.
