i seem to be right in the middle of the elder folk age range at 54. i'm feeling a little older right now 'cause i broke my shoulder on a ski trip with my god daughter in pennsylvania last week. first time skiing in 20 years and i may have been going a wee bit too fast. seems to me i broke the same shoulder the last time i went skiing, too. i hope i'm in good enough shape to be in a position to break it again while skiing 20 years from now.

i'm ahuntin' and apeckin' with one finger and capital letters are too much for me right now.

i started canoeing on the connecticut river back in the 70s in an aluminum michicraft with a one inch keel. since i was spending most of my river time with my feet up on the gunnels, sound asleep, i took some white water lessons for a little more excitement. Can you imagine trying to manuever in class ii & iii with a one inch keel?

later on i bought a phoenix savage ww kayak, quit my job and wandered around the new hampshire white mountains for a couple of months. i blew a chance at a good job in the white mountains because i was kayaking and didn't want to come in early for an interview. what a dummy.

i got away from the outdoors for a number of years but picked up canoeing again several years ago to help overcome some health problems. i would find myself in the middle of a lake in my little 11 foot canoe battling high winds with 2+ foot waves coming over the bow, and enjoying it?

i took a week long sea kayaking course with mainesport in rockland, maine a couple of years ago and have been stumbling around the new england coast ever since. i occassionally get email from the paddlewisenhiemers addressed to mr. keys or keyless. there's a trip report on the g.a.s.p. pages that explain why <g>

i've been on the list for about a year and have no problem at all asking (sometimes intentionally) dumb questions. The list has members with a vast array of experience from little or none to those with many, many years of paddling and touring experience. Some are hesitant or embarrassed to ask questions. not me, i revel in my ignorance. <g> and sometimes ask questions i know the ansers to, just to get an important thread going.

i expect to quit my job again and go wandering around the maritime proviences this spring or summer. the shoulder should be healed by then and paddling will be my physical therapy. sounds good to me.

my peckin' finger's gettin' sore. cya.
