Hello List,

The post about storing your boat in the house reminded me about a sort of
related story.

The first year I had cold water paddling clothes, I was really gung-ho to
get out and paddle. During Christmas week there was a mild day and I had a
very enjoyable time out there. After I returned, I put the boat up on the
top of my van and drove home. Being somewhat lazy and knowing I was going
out on a New Years day paddle two days later, I decided to leave the boat
on the top of my van. Well, that night we had rain and falling
temperatures. The next day I had a nice thick coating of ice well
incrusted into my deck lines, etc.

What to do, what to do? What could I do? I spread towels on the dining
room floor, brought the boat in through one of the windows, and the boat
lived in the dining room for a day. My wife was mildly amused but insisted
that it had to go after one day. The ice went away and the effect on my
neighbors seeing the boat go in and out through windows in my house served
to reinforce their opinions of me. Naturally we took pictures to impress
the relatives.

Bottom line, I got to do the New Years paddle ice free. Happy ending!
