>Hi Robert, >Exposed ignorance: If the Nikonos is not SLR and not a point and shoot >what is it? The Nikonos is Point and Shoot. It has a small view finder. They make a "sports finder" that mounts on the body. YOu use if for framing. I haven't had much luck with them over using the optical on the camera. The lenses are exchangable. Hoever, the "viewfinder" does not use "through the lens" opticals. Therefor, just because it has exchangble lenses, it is not SLR. The SLR's use a view finder that is "through the lens." Supposedly, with the SLR, what you see through the view finder is "what you get." The Nikonos is pretty accurate. Nikon sells the Nikonos and you can pick up some used ones at the used camera shops. Southern Nikonos may sell some used Nikonos cameras. Southern Nikonos Service Center 9459 Kempwood Houston, Texas 77080 (713) 462-5436 Robert >I thought if it took lenses it was an SLR. I would say that the Nikonos is neither an SLR or a point and shoot. It is really a rangefinder where one focuses by approximating the range. I would define a true point and shoot as a cheaper, autofocus camera. Rangefinders are often sharper, but you need to practice to get good at using them. - Scott Ives Robert C.
