As long as we're getting into other less macho stuff, does anybody
use anything to keep their hands from cracking and falling apart
that's as good as or better than Bag Balm? I'm building a stitch
and glue kayak in an unheated garage, trying to get out on the
water at least once each week, and, although it's about the mildest
winter I can remember in the Mid-Atlantic, my hands are really
shot. Bag Balm --- for the Floridian, international and urban
elements on PaddleWise, it's the stuff that's massaged into bovine
udders to prevent chapping in cold weather --- works really well,
and is a sailor's standby in my part of the world. A little hard to
find, and a little pricey ($7.99 for can that will last through a long,
cold winter ---unless you also have cows, I guess), but the stuff
works wonders! However, is there anything else out there that's
better --- in y'all's humble opinions, of course?

I was recently put on to Eucerin for dry and cracking hands. Its not greasy
and seems to be doing the job. I got mine at CVS Pharmacies. It was a bit
pricey too at about $7 for a small jar

I use Alba Botanica. It was given to me as a gift so I don't know where to
get it but I suspect it is a cosmetic store type item. It too is pricy at
$8.95. I usually forget to take care of my hands so when they start to crack
and bleed I remember to use the moisturiser. If I put it on in the morning
and again before bed I usually eliminate the crab claws in two days or so.
The bottle says "unscented" but it has a tiny bit of stink.

Try old fashion "Corn Huskers Lotion" ... Cheap and can be found most anywhere
... We use it in Forensics to soften and re-shape dead (literally) skin to
obtain fingerprints and it works even better on live skin!

If you really like this you can get it for MUCH LESS than you seem to
be finding it. KV Vet sells it for 1oz--$3.49, 10oz--$4.95 and if you
really use a lot 4.5 lb for 26.99+FOB. Most places that sell farm
supplies sell it for less than the drug store. I have used it for
years working with horses. Both of us need a little tlc from time to
     time.
